Grand Rapids Man Wins $500,000 Playing the Michigan Lottery’s Crown Jewel Instant Game

A Grand Rapids man says winning a $500,000 prize playing the Michigan Lottery’s Crown Jewels game is “indescribable.”

The lucky player, who chose to remain anonymous, bought his winning ticket at Champion Beverage, located at 501 Leonard Street Northeast in Grand Rapids.

“I like to play the instant games and purchased some while I was at the store,” said the 48-year-old player. “I began scratching my tickets as soon as I got to my car. I revealed the crown on the Crown Jewels ticket but didn’t scratch the amount.

“Once I saw I didn’t win anywhere else on the ticket, I started scratching the last digit of the winning amount under the crown, which was a zero. I scratched another zero and another and knew I won big. It was such a crazy feeling!”

The lucky player visited Lottery headquarters to claim his prize. With his winnings, he plans purchase a car and save the remainder.

“Winning a prize like this is an indescribable feeling; it is awesome,” the player said.

Players have won more than $8 million playing Crown Jewels, which launched in February. Each $5 ticket offers players a chance to win prizes ranging from $5 up to $500,000. More than $22 million in prizes remain, including two $500,000 top-prizes and eight $2,500 prizes.

Lottery instant games may be purchased at 10,500 retailers across the state.

In 2020, Lottery players won more than $1.5 billion playing instant games.
