A Genesee County man won the record $894,666 Fantasy 5 jackpot from the Michigan Lottery.

The lucky player, who chose to remain anonymous, matched the Fantasy 5 numbers drawn Aug. 12 – 04-06-14-16-17 – to win an $894,666 jackpot. He bought the winning ticket at Tony’s Kwik Mart, located at 5124 East Hill Road in Grand Blanc. The previous record Fantasy 5 jackpot was $840,328, won by a Wayne County player on July 7, 2011.

“When the jackpot got up around $500,000, something told me to start playing because I was going to win,” said the 58-year-old player. “I started buying tickets, and it turned out I was right.

“I saw the numbers on the drawing show and I knew right away they were my numbers. I hopped in the car and drove to my mother’s house to tell her the news. At first she was worried I had something bad to tell her because I was so nervous, but once we all calmed down I was able to tell her I’d won. It’s a true blessing.”

The lucky player visited Lottery headquarters Monday to claim the big prize. With his winnings, he plans to travel and share with his family.

“The Lord knows where my heart is at and this is going to make me even more humble,” the player said.

Each Fantasy 5 play is only $1. For an additional $1 per play, EZmatch may be added to a Fantasy 5 ticket, giving players a chance to win up to $500 instantly. Fantasy 5 players select five numbers from one to 39. Players who match all five Fantasy 5 numbers drawn win a jackpot that starts at $100,000.
