A Kent County man’s stop to quench his thirst led to a $199,186 Fantasy 5 jackpot from the Michigan Lottery.

The lucky player, who chose to remain anonymous, matched the Fantasy 5 numbers drawn Friday – 03-06-11-29-38 – to win the jackpot. He bought his winning ticket at Zerka’s General Store, located at 1249 Greenville Road Northwest in Stanton.

“My wife and I were on our way home from a family obligation and I was thirsty, so I stopped at the first place I saw,” said the 59-year-old player. “I bought a bottle of water and decided to buy a Fantasy 5 ticket since the jackpot was over $150,000.

“The next morning I checked my ticket and didn’t believe my eyes. I looked at the ticket over and over, but kept the news to myself until I knew for sure I had a winner. After I called the Lottery office Monday and they confirmed I had won, I told my wife the good news.”

The player visited Lottery headquarters Tuesday to claim the jackpot. With his winnings he plans to buy a new car, take a vacation, and then invest the remainder for his retirement.

“We’ve been talking more and more lately about retirement, and this win is an unexpected and much appreciated boost to our financial plan,” the player said.

Each Fantasy 5 play is only $1. For an additional $1 per play, EZmatch may be added to a Fantasy 5 ticket, giving players a chance to win up to $500 instantly. Fantasy 5 players select five numbers from one to 39. Players who match all five Fantasy 5 numbers drawn win a jackpot that starts at $100,000. Fantasy 5 drawings are held seven days a week at 7:29 p.m.
