Bloomfield Hills Man $25,000 a Year for Life Playing Lucky For Life

A Bloomfield Hills man is looking forward to paying his final credit card bill after winning $25,000 a year for life playing Lucky For Life.

Marion Smith, 66, matched the five white balls drawn Jan. 4 – 11-12-19-28-46 – to win the big prize. He bought his ticket at the Mobil gas station, located at 40610 Woodward Avenue in Bloomfield Hills.

“I checked the numbers in the morning at the gas station and the retailer told me I’d have to go to the Lottery office,” said Smith. “I thought I had a $5,000 winner.

“I stopped at the grocery store on my way home, and decided to look my ticket up on the Lottery’s app. When I saw I matched five numbers, I knew right away I won $25,000 a year for life!”

Smith visited Lottery headquarters today to claim his prize. He chose to receive his winnings as a one-time lump sum payment of $390,000, rather than annuity payments for 20 years or life, whichever is greater. With his winnings, Smith plans to pay off his debt and get some work done on his vehicle.

“It feels nice to win. I can’t wait to pay off my credit card and not have another bill come in the mail for a long time,” Smith said.

For just $2 per play, Lucky For Life gives Lottery players a chance to win prizes ranging from $3 to a lifetime of cash. To win the game’s top prize of $1,000 a day for life, players must match all five winning numbers ranging from 1 to 48, plus one Lucky Ball ranging from 1 to 18. Players who match all five winning numbers, but not the Lucky Ball, will win $25,000 a year for life. Lucky For Life drawings take place every Monday and Thursday at 10:35 p.m. Tickets may be purchased at Lottery retailers across the state.
