A Mecosta County woman nearly passed out after winning $1 million playing the Michigan Lottery’s Golden Ticket instant game.
The lucky player, who chose to remain anonymous, bought her winning ticket at Fates Mini Mart, located at 198 East Main Street in Mecosta.
“I don’t usually buy $10 tickets, but I decided to give the Golden Ticket game a try,” said the player. “I won $50 on my ticket, so I bought five more Golden Tickets and won another $50. I bought five more, and won $1 million!
“I couldn’t believe I had won. I was so excited and stunned that the clerk told me not to pass out.”
The player visited Lottery headquarters Thursday to claim her big prize. She chose to receive her prize as a one-time lump sum payment of about $634,000, rather than an annuity. With her winnings, she plans to complete some home improvements, buy a newer car, donate to her church, and share with family.
“It’s a great feeling to know I’ll never have to worry about anything ever again and that I’ll have something to give to my children when I’m gone,” the player said.
Players have won more than $19 million playing Golden Ticket, which launched in July. Each $10 ticket offers players a chance to win prizes ranging from $10 up to $1 million. More than $37 million in prizes remain, including two $1 million top prizes and 42 $10,000 prizes.
Lottery instant games may be purchased at 11,000 retailers across the state.
In 2016, Lottery players won nearly $817 million playing instant games.
