An Oakland County man had a hard time going to work after winning a $1 million progressive jackpot playing the Michigan Lottery’s Jackpot Slots Fast Cash game.
The lucky 26-year-old player, who chose to remain anonymous, bought his winning ticket at the BP gas station, located at 30875 Woodward Avenue in Royal Oak. The player’s big win marks is the largest Fast Cash progressive jackpot ever won. The previous record was set by Mike Harbert, of Stockbridge, who won a $753,824 Fast Cash jackpot in August.
“I’d been watching the jackpot Sunday morning and told my dad I was going to win it when it got to $1 million,” said the player. “I left for work in the afternoon and bought four Fast Cash tickets on my way.
“When I got to work I checked my $5 Fast Cash tickets first and saw someone had hit the jackpot. I was bummed because I had checked the jackpot right before I bought my tickets and couldn’t believe someone won it. When I checked my Jackpot Slots tickets and saw I was the jackpot winner I was stunned.”
The player immediately called his dad to tell him the good news.
“When I answered the phone, I could tell by his voice something was off,” said the player’s dad. “I said: ‘You won the jackpot, didn’t you?’ I was so happy for him when he told me he was the winner.”
“I was in the parking lot at work and thought about calling in, but I decided to go in to work. It was pretty hard to walk in there knowing I’d just won $1 million,” said the player, who works at a local restaurant. “I asked my dad to come pick up the ticket so I didn’t have to carry it around or leave it in my car.”
The lucky player visited Lottery headquarters Tuesday to collect the big prize. With his winnings, he plans to buy a house, take a trip, and then invest the remainder.
“I still can’t believe it’s real. Winning this much money makes me feel so much more comfortable and secure,” the winner said.
Fast Cash games are a series of instant-win games that print from terminals at Lottery retailers. Fast Cash tickets range in price from $1 per play up to $10 per play, and feature popular game themes, including Cashword and Wild Time.
