A Monroe County woman says winning a $1.8 million Lotto 47 jackpot “doesn’t feel real.”
The lucky player, who chose to remain anonymous, matched all six Lotto 47 numbers drawn Aug. 16: 01-19-23-35-37-38. She bought her winning ticket at the Stop and Run, located at 2062 South Custer Road in Monroe. It is the sixth time in 2017 that a player has won the Lotto 47 jackpot.
“I bought a Lotto 47 ticket with EZMatch and won $2 on the EZMatch, so I cashed it in and stuck the new ticket in my purse,” said the 21-year-old player. “I forgot about it for a few days and even took a couple of trips with it in my purse not knowing I had won!
“I was at the store with my sister when I found the ticket and scanned it on the Lucky Spot. It said to see the retailer, so I had the clerk scan it and she told me I had to go to Lansing. I got a printout of the numbers and handed it to my sister. She read the first three numbers off the printout, and I read the last three off my ticket. That’s when I knew I had won and we started screaming and celebrating!”
The lucky player visited Lottery headquarters on Wednesday to claim her prize. She chose to receive her prize as a one-time lump sum payment of about $1.1 million, rather than an annuity. With her winnings, the player plans to buy a new vehicle, a new home, and then invest the remainder.
“Winning at such a young age gives me a real sense of security to start my adult life debt free,” the player said.
Each Lotto 47 play is only $1. Players select six numbers from one to 47 for a chance to win a jackpot starting at $1 million and that grows until someone wins it. For an additional $1 per game, players may add EZMatch to their ticket for a chance to win up to $500 instantly. Lotto 47 drawings take place on Wednesday and Saturday at 7:29 p.m. Tickets may be purchased until 7:08 p.m. on the day of the drawing.
