A Genesee County man is looking forward to a financial cushion after winning a $4.4 million jackpot from the Michigan Lottery.
The lucky player, who chose to remain anonymous, matched all six Lotto 47 numbers drawn May 17: 09-13-17-24-30-33. He bought his winning ticket at Smitty’s Exit 80, located at 2461 North Road in Fenton.
“I’ve been playing Lotto 47 for years and I’ve won a few smaller prizes,” said the 54-year-old player. “My wife and I sat down to check our numbers and we were so excited to see we had won the jackpot!”
The player visited Lottery headquarters Wednesday to claim the jackpot. He chose to receive his prize as a one-time lump sum payment of about $2.8 million rather than an annuity. With his winnings, he plans to set up college funds for his children and then invest the remainder in his retirement.
“It feels great to have a cushion and know I’ll be able to retire on my terms,” the player said.
Each Lotto 47 play is only $1. Players select six numbers from one to 47 for a chance to win a jackpot starting at $1 million and that grows until someone wins it. For an additional $1 per game, players may add EZMatch to their ticket for a chance to win up to $500 instantly. Lotto 47 drawings take place on Wednesday and Saturday at 7:29 p.m. Tickets may be purchased until 7:08 p.m. on the day of the drawing.
