A 26-year-old Barry County woman had to recover from the shock of winning $68,500 playing the Michigan Lottery’s Club Keno The Jack game before racing home to hide her winning ticket in a loaf of bread.
The lucky player, who chose to remain anonymous, won the big prize when her easy pick The Jack numbers – 04-13-28-30-33-49-55-66 – matched eight of the 20 Club Keno numbers drawn in draw 1451168 on April 21. She bought the winning ticket at Red’s Sports Bar and Grill, located at 661 South Broadway Street in Middleville.
“I bought a five-spot ticket with The Jack and then stepped outside to visit with some friends,” said the player. “When I came in, I had the bartender scan my ticket. When he told me he couldn’t cash it, I started to feel sick.
“My stomach was in knots while I looked at a print out of the winning numbers. Once I saw I had won, I started dry heaving and I turned whiter than a sheet of paper.”
The lucky player and her friend quickly left Red’s with the winning ticket.
“When I got home I had to figure out where to hide the ticket,” said the player. “I looked around and the first thing I saw was a loaf of bread so I decided to hide the ticket there. When I opened up the loaf of bread, some money fell out and it turns out it was my daughter’s tooth fairy money. Like mother, like daughter.”
The player visited Lottery headquarters on Friday to claim her big prize. With her winnings, the player plans to set up college funds for her children, buy a new vehicle, and take a vacation to Disney World.
“Winning the Lottery is a major relief for me. I’m a single mom and this gives me a much needed sense of security,” the player said.
The Jack is a Club Keno add-on game that players may add to their Club Keno wager for as little as $1 per draw. The jackpot starts at $10,000 and grows until it is won. To win the jackpot, players must match all eight numbers.
Club Keno may be played at the 11,000 Lottery retailers across the state. Drawings take place every three and a half minutes. Results and live drawings may be found online at http://www.michiganlottery.com.
