Gov. Rick Snyder today announced the appointment of Aric Nesbitt of Lawton as Michigan Lottery Commissioner.

The lottery commissioner is responsible for the overall management and operation of the bureau, including development of long-range plans, formulation of policy, assuring the accountability and integrity of the lottery, and establishing and maintaining contact with state legislators to research, evaluate, and gauge the impact of lottery-related legislation.

“I thank Aric for his continued service to the great state of Michigan. He has served many years in public service and I am confident that experience will suit him well in this role,” Snyder said.

Nesbitt served three terms in the Michigan House of Representatives. He previously served as Legislative Director for Congressman Tim Murphy and Congressman Tim Walberg. He earned a bachelor’s degree in economics from Hillsdale College and a master’s in economics and business administration from the Norwegian School of Economics. He will replace M. Scott Bowen.

His term is effective Feb. 19, 2017 and will serve at the pleasure of the Governor. His appointment is subject to the advice and consent of the Senate.
