The lucky player, who chose to remain anonymous, won $100,000 on a Bonus Jackpot instant game ticket that she received as a gift from her longtime roommate. The winning ticket was bought at the Meijer store, located at 30800 Little Mack Road in Roseville.
“My roommate, who regularly plays the Lottery, was buying tickets from a machine when she told me to pick out a game,” said the player. “I chose the Bonus Jackpot game because it looked like a slot machine.”
The player’s roommate collected the Bonus Jackpot ticket, along with the other tickets she purchased, and handed it to the player.
“She told me to put the ticket in my purse and thanked me for all I have done to help her,” said the player. “I scratched the ticket off when we got home and was tickled to have what I thought was a $100 winner.
“I told my roommate I’d won $100 and thanked her for the ticket before handing it to her so she could check it out. The next thing I heard was hear scream: ‘No, you won $100,000!’
“I never get lucky, so I couldn’t believe it,” said the player. “I called the Lottery and once they confirmed my ticket was a $100,000 winner it really started to sink in.”
The player visited Lottery headquarters with her roommate on Thursday to collect her big prize.
With her winnings, the player plans to make some repairs to her home and her roommate’s car, and will invest the remainder.
For her part, the roommate isn’t looking for a share of the prize.
“I couldn’t be happier that she won. She took me in to her home when I had nowhere to go. She has been such a great friend to me and I feel like I still owe her so much,” the winner’s roommate said.
Players have won more than $5.1 million playing Bonus Jackpot, which launched in June. Each $3 ticket offers players a chance to win prizes ranging from $3 up to $100,000. More than $5.8 million in prizes remain, including 47 $1,000 prizes.
Lottery instant games may be purchased at 11,000 retailers across the state.
