Retirement is a little closer for a Royal Oak man who won a $450,842 Fantasy 5 jackpot from the Michigan Lottery.

The lucky player, who chose to remain anonymous, matched the Fantasy 5 numbers drawn on Oct. 16 – 24-25-27-29-39 – to win the jackpot. He bought his winning ticket at the BP gas station, located at 4727 Coolidge Highway in Royal Oak.

“Normally, I only play the Daily 3 and Daily 4 games,” said the player who claimed his prize today at Lottery headquarters. “As I was waiting in line to buy those tickets, I noticed the Fantasy 5 jackpot was pretty high so I thought: ‘Why not take a chance?’”

The 55 year-old player learned that thought paid off in a big way when he checked his ticket and saw he had a jackpot winner.

“I got on the Lottery app and thought the winning numbers looked pretty similar to what I remembered on my ticket,” said the player. “I grabbed my ticket to check the numbers and had to double and triple check to make sure I was seeing everything right!”

The player kept his winning ticket in a safety deposit box while he made preparations to claim his prize. With his winnings, he plans to pay some bills and invest in his retirement.

“I’ve been thinking about retiring and this gives us a really nice cushion. We might not have won millions, but we’ll be able to pay our bills, helps some people out and invest, and that’s all I could really ask for,” said the player.

Each Fantasy 5 play is only $1. For an additional $1 per play, EZmatch may be added to a Fantasy 5 ticket, giving players a chance to win up to $500 instantly. Fantasy 5 players select five numbers from one to 39. Players who match all five Fantasy 5 numbers drawn win a jackpot that starts at $100,000. Fantasy 5 drawings are held seven days a week at 7:29 p.m. Tonight’s Fantasy 5 jackpot is $100,000.
