After struggling through a bad year, a Detroit man bought a Fantasy 5 ticket – only his second Lottery purchase ever – hoping it would bring him some good luck.
His hopes became reality when his ticket turned out to be a $100,000 winner. “I didn’t know what to do, I couldn’t stop smiling all day,” said the 39-year-old winner, who chose to remain anonymous.
The first of two Easy Pick plays on his ticket matched all of the Fantasy 5 numbers drawn Tuesday evening: 02-06-13-23-25. He purchased the ticket at the Sunoco gas station at 2500 Union Lake Road, in Commerce Township.
The player said the big prize will help him recover from a series of setbacks that left him struggling financially and forced him to move in with his mother. Getting his own apartment and taking his girlfriend out for dinner to celebrate the windfall topped his list of plans.
The winner claimed his prize at Lottery headquarters in Lansing on Friday. “I bought my first Lottery ticket several years ago when I was with a friend and he was buying some. But I never bought another one after that. I’ve had such a bad year that I decided to buy a Lottery ticket because I definitely needed some good luck. I can’t believe I won $100,000. That much money is really going to help me get my life back on track,” he said, adding that he plans to become a regular Lottery player.
