Winning a $285,973 Fantasy 5 jackpot from the Michigan Lottery stunned a Dearborn man and provided an exciting moment for his family.
The lucky player, who chose to remain anonymous, was on his way to the gym when he stopped at a gas station to check his Fantasy 5 ticket. He scanned the ticket and received a message to see the store’s clerk.
“When the machine told me to see the clerk I thought something was wrong,” said the player. “I went back out to my car and checked the Fantasy 5 numbers on my phone. I couldn’t believe I was the jackpot winner!”
The player matched the five Fantasy 5 numbers drawn on July 5 – 16-19-24-31-34 – to win a $285,973 jackpot. He bought his winning ticket at the United Party Shoppe II, located at 7551 Wyoming Street in Dearborn.
“As soon as I walked into my parents’ house they knew something was going on,” said the player. “I think they thought something terrible had happened to me, but once I shared the good news everyone was so excited. I told my mom first and she couldn’t wait to tell my brothers the good news.
“I play the same Fantasy 5 numbers every week and have won a $100 a few times. At first I thought I had just won a $100,000 jackpot, but when I found out how large the jackpot actually was, I could hardly speak.”
The entire family has taken notice of the big win. The player’s brothers have started playing Fantasy 5 and hope to be jackpot winners soon.
The big win couldn’t have come at a better time for the player who plans to pay off his student loan bills with his windfall. With the remainder of his winnings, he plans to buy his own home and set aside a portion for a previously planned vacation to Las Vegas.
