The player, who chose to remain anonymous, was riding with her son Friday night and bought her winning ticket when they stopped at a Detroit Mobil gas station, located at 1920 West Fisher Freeway.
“My son ran errands for me on Friday and I told him I’d fill up his car,” said the player. “While he was filling up, I went inside to buy a Mega Millions ticket but the clerk told me I was too late. I decided to buy some instant game tickets instead.”
After returning home, the player turned on her TV and started scratching the tickets she had bought, saving the 50X The Cash ticket for last.
“I scratched the ticket and started crying because I thought I had won $25,000,” said the player. “I had my son look at the ticket and when he said ‘Momma you won $250,000!’ I lost it and started bawling.”
During what seemed like the longest weekend of her life, the player hid the ticket in several places around her home. On Monday morning, her week began as the last one ended, with her and her son in his car taking a road trip. This time, the duo headed to Lansing to claim her $250,000 prize.
With her winnings, the player plans to help family members in need and put the remainder into a savings account.
“I’m so overjoyed by this whole experience, and can’t stop saying ‘Thank you Jesus!’” she said.
Each 50X The Cash ticket gives players a chance to win prizes ranging from $10 to $1 million. About $51.5 million in prizes remain, including all three of the game’s $1 million top prizes, nine $250,000 prizes, 249 $10,000 prizes, and 2,521 $1,000 prizes.
Lottery instant game tickets may be purchased at retailers around the state.
