A Columbiaville woman extended the blazing hot streak for Fantasy 5 players to 22 weeks by winning a $105,000 jackpot with a ticket bought at her son’s store.
Lorraine Smith matched all five winning numbers – 17-21-23-28-36 – in Sunday’s Fantasy 5 drawing to win her big prize. Her husband, Brion, bought the ticket for her at Scott’s Bargain Barn, located at 4398 Columbiaville Road in Columbiaville.
Playing the Michigan Lottery is a family affair for the Smiths, so Lorraine and her family piled into the car and took the trip to Lottery headquarters together to collect her big prize.
Not a regular Lottery player, Lorraine is more accustomed to selling tickets, not cashing them in. She works at Scott’s Bargain Barn along with Brion, son, Scott, and his girlfriend, Beth.
“I buy an occasional ticket here or there, but my husband is definitely a frequent Lottery player,” said Lorraine. “He will come home with a handful of tickets and share them with me, so I didn’t think much of it when he handed me a Fantasy 5 ticket on Sunday.”
Neither of them knew just how lucrative that $1 Fantasy 5 investment would turn out to be.
“When we went into work on Tuesday, Brion was standing at the counter helping customers and I started scanning our tickets to see if we had any winners,” said Lorraine. “When I scanned the Fantasy 5 ticket and realized I had the jackpot winner I kept trying to get Brion’s attention, but he wouldn’t stop talking so I could share the good news!
“Next, we told Scott as soon as he got into the store and he couldn’t believe we had won.”
After making an appointment to collect Lorraine’s big prize, the family hung a “closed” sign on the front door of Scott’s Bargain Barn and headed for Lansing.
With her winnings, Lorraine plans to purchase a new generator for the store and find some practical ways to spend the rest.
Including Lorraine’s jackpot win, Fantasy 5 players have won at least one jackpot each week since April 7. Players have won more than two jackpots per week on average during the streak. In total, 49 jackpots totaling more than $7.4 million have been won.
