Monday morning couldn’t come fast enough for a Pontiac woman who won $100,000 playing the Michigan Lottery’s $100,000 Cashword game. After scratching the lucky ticket late Friday night she said she couldn’t wait to contact the Lottery to claim her big prize.

Susan Griffin, 63, of Pontiac, visited the Cheerful Dollar located at 1255 Baldwin Avenue in Pontiac on Friday night to purchase supplies for a family get-together. On a whim, she decided to buy five $100,000 Cashword tickets. Her whim turned into a windfall when the first ticket she purchased turned out to be a $100,000 winner!

Griffin, an avid Cashword player, first thought she had won $50 or $100. She only realized she had won a $100,000 top prize after her youngest son double-checked the ticket.

“I started shaking when he said I had won $100,000,” said Griffin. “I was in so much shock I had to sit down and catch my breath.”

After confirming the ticket was a winner, Griffin folded the ticket and carefully put it in her wallet for safekeeping.

“I didn’t let the ticket out of my sight all weekend,” she said. “I looked at it every day to make sure it was still there and that I had really won. It’s still just so hard to believe!”

With her winnings, Griffin plans to pay off her truck, purchase a home and take a trip to Georgia to visit family.
