A 59-year-old Detroit man gave his bride of just one month quite a gift on Monday: a $183,826 Fantasy 5 jackpot.
Eugene Harris and his wife, Estella, visited Michigan Lottery headquarters Monday to collect the big prize.
Harris matched all five numbers drawn Friday night – 10-15-20-24-37 – to win the jackpot. He bought his winning ticket at the Grand River Express, located at 16535 Grand River Avenue in Detroit.
“I have been playing Fantasy 5 regularly for a long time, and just told Estella I had a feeling we were going to hit the jackpot,” said Harris. “I feel so blessed to have won this prize!”
“We checked our ticket with the numbers on MichiganLottery.com and neither one of us could believe we had won,” Mrs. Harris said. “At first I thought Eugene was trying to play a trick on me.”
With his winnings, the longtime Lottery player plans to pay off his house, purchase a house for family, and make a donation to his church. He also is planning to take Estella on a honeymoon, likely to Las Vegas.
Fantasy 5 players have been on a torrid streak, winning 33 jackpots over the past 14 weeks, including the Harris’ jackpot. Jackpot winners during this streak have collected more than $4.8 million.
The winning ticket holders from the April 26, May 17, June 2, and June 22 Fantasy 5 drawings have yet to claim those prizes. The lucky ticket holders should contact the Lottery’s Public Relations Division at (517) 373-1237 to set up an appointment to claim their prize. Tickets for Fantasy 5 are valid for one year from the drawing date. Prizes of more than $50,000 must be claimed at the Lottery headquarters in Lansing.
Each Fantasy 5 play is only $1. For an additional $1 per play, EZmatch may be added to a Fantasy 5 ticket, giving players a chance to win up to $500 instantly. Fantasy 5 players select five numbers from one to 39. Players who match all five Fantasy 5 numbers drawn win a jackpot guaranteed to start at $100,000. Fantasy 5 drawings are held seven days a week at 7:29 p.m.
