A winning Mega Millions ticket worth $250,000 expired today and that unclaimed prize now goes to the state School Aid Fund.
The ticket was bought in Flint at the Southend Market, 1701 S. Saginaw Street. The deadline for the prize to be claimed was 4:45 p.m. today, but no one came forward with the winning ticket. The ticket was for the March 29, 2013 Mega Millions drawing. The winning numbers for that drawing were 25-31-36-46-53 and the Gold Mega Ball was 21. The $250,000 winner matched the first five numbers for that drawing.
Mega Millions tickets and all other terminal-based tickets are valid for one year from the drawing date. Because the one-year mark for this winning ticket fell on Saturday, the ticket was valid until 4:45 p.m. today.
A winning ticket for another $250,000 Mega Millions prize also is getting close to its expiration date. That winning ticket was bought at the 8-Mile Foodland in Southfield for the April 12, 2013 drawing. The winning numbers for that drawing were 01-10-13-19-21 and the Gold Mega Ball was 28. The $250,000 winning ticket matched the first five numbers for that drawing.
Because the one-year mark for the winning ticket falls on a Saturday, the ticket will be valid until 4:45 p.m. on April 14.
Earlier this month, a Fantasy 5 ticket worth $138,727 expired and the unclaimed prize went to the School Aid Fund. The Lottery contributed $734.3 million to the School Aid Fund in the 2013 fiscal year. That works out to about $465 for each of the 1.58 million pupils in the state’s kindergarten-through-12th grade system.
