Michigan Lottery players have until 10:45 p.m. to buy tickets for a chance to win tonight’s $400 million Mega Millions jackpot!
Tonight’s drawing will take place at 11 p.m.
The current $400 million jackpot is the third-largest prize in Mega Millions history. It is also the seventh-largest lottery jackpot ever in North America. The record North American jackpot is also the largest Mega Millions jackpot of $656 million, which was split between three tickets in March 2012.
If a single Michigan player wins tonight, it would be the largest lottery jackpot ever won in the state. It would be $63 million more than the $337 million Powerball jackpot, won by Donald Lawson, of Lapeer, on Aug. 15, 2012.
The winner could decide to take a one-time payment and receive $223 million! Or, the jackpot can be paid out as an escalating annuity with 30 payments over 29 years. With a $400 million jackpot, the winner would get an initial payment of about $6 million, which would increase about 5 percent each year. The final payment would be approximately $24.8 million.
If no one wins tonight, the jackpot for Friday’s Mega Millions drawing is astonishing $490 million. The cash option is projected to be $273.2 million.
