LANSING, September 11, 2012 – A 70-year-old retiree from the city of Avoca is the latest winner of the Michigan Lottery’s Fantasy 5 game. The lucky player took home $100,000 from the drawing held on August 31.

His wife told him that she had learned from the store clerk where he usually bought his tickets that someone had hit the Fantasy 5 jackpot. However, he was sure that he hadn’t won, so he didn’t get excited.

The player, who wishes to remain anonymous, was still in disbelief when he visited the Lottery office to claim his prize. He remained calm, collected and poker-faced even while Lottery employees worked to prepare his check. However, once he had the check in hand, Fantasy 5 became a reality, and he gave a great big grin.

The winning ticket was sold at Yale Party Store located at 121 S. Main St. in Yale.

Over 95 cents of every dollar spent on Lottery tickets is returned to the state in the form of contributions to the state School Aid Fund, prizes to players and commissions to retailers. In fiscal year 2011, the contribution to schools was over $727.3 million. Since its inception in 1972, the Lottery has contributed over $16 billion to education in Michigan.
