LANSING, January 21, 2009 – A longtime Lottery player won a whopping $234,342 prize after he matched all five numbers in the January 5 Fantasy 5 game!

The anonymous man didn’t believe his good fortune until his son confirmed the good news with Lottery officials. The lucky man won a $5,000 prize when the Lottery first started in 1972. With that prize money he took his family to Las Vegas. He plans to do the same with this money.

The winning easy-pick ticket was purchased at Meijer #209, 12821 Crossover Dr., in DeWitt.

Fantasy 5 drawings are conducted seven days a week. Jackpots start at $100,000 and grow by approximately $5,000 daily.

Over 95 cents of every dollar spent on Lottery tickets is returned to the state in the form of contributions to the state School Aid Fund, prizes to players and commissions to retailers. In fiscal year 2008, the contribution to schools was over $740.7 million. Since its inception in 1972, the Lottery has contributed more than $15 billion to education in Michigan.
