Canton man wins $10,000

LANSING, January 13, 2009 – Kenneth Bailey of Canton matched four white Mega Millions ball numbers and the gold Mega ball number on January 2 and won $10,000!

The regular Lottery player has made no special plans for the easy-pick money.

The lucky winning ticket was purchased at Shell, 5640 Haggerty Rd., in Canton. A $75 million Mega Millions ticket was also sold by this retailer on November 14, 2006. He received a $50,000 commission for selling the jackpot ticket. For selling a $10,000 winning ticket, the retailer will receive 2 percent of the prize, or $200.

Mega Millions is a multi-state lottery game in Michigan, California, Georgia, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Texas, Virginia and Washington. Wagers cost $1 each and tickets may be purchased at nearly 11,000 Michigan Lottery retailers statewide.

Over 95 cents of every dollar spent on Lottery tickets is returned to the state in the form of contributions to the state School Aid Fund, prizes to players and commissions to retailers. In fiscal year 2008, the contribution to schools was $740.7 million. Since its inception in 1972, the Lottery has contributed more than $15 billion to education in Michigan.
