Detroit woman claims $12,000 prize!

LANSING, November 24, 2008 – Shirley Martin of Detroit has been playing the Lottery for 30 years and only won a previous prize of $200 before she scratched her way to a $12,000 prize on the Bingo Blast Instant ticket!

The long-time Lottery player hid the winning ticket in a dresser drawer before she cashed it at the Lottery’s Detroit office.  Martin plans to use the money towards the purchase of a house.

The lucky ticket was purchased at Houston Petro Inc., 11700 Chalmers, in Detroit.

Bingo Blast  is just one of many Michigan Lottery Instant tickets available at nearly 11,000 Lottery retailers statewide.

Over 95 cents of every dollar spent on Lottery tickets is returned to the state in the form of contributions to the state School Aid Fund, prizes to players and commissions to retailers. In fiscal year 2008, the contribution to schools was $740.7 million. Since its inception in 1972, the Lottery has contributed more than $15 billion to education in Michigan.
