18-year-old wins $10,002

LANSING, July 25, 2008 – A Mega Millions ticket brought beginners luck to a Canton man! The lucky guy matched four white ball numbers and the gold Mega ball number in the July 4 drawing to win the $10,002 prize!

Corey Goers, 18, has played the Lottery for the last three months and this is his largest win to date. Even after his mom informed him of his good fortune, Goers didn’t believe his win.

He plans to use the own-pick prize money to fix his truck and purchase an X Box 360.

The lucky winning ticket was purchased at Al’s Beverage Warehouse, 962 S. Venoy Rd., in Westland.

Mega Millions is a multi-state lottery game in Michigan, California, Georgia, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Texas, Virginia and Washington. Wagers cost $1 each and tickets may be purchased at nearly 11,000 Michigan Lottery retailers statewide.

Over 95 cents of every dollar spent on Lottery tickets is returned to the state in the form of contributions to the state School Aid Fund, prizes to players and commissions to retailers. In fiscal year 2007, the contribution to schools was $748.9 million. Since its inception in 1972, the Lottery has contributed more than $14.3 billion to education in Michigan.
