"Mega" prize claimed by Detroit woman

LANSING, March 14, 2007 – Watching the game show “The Price is Right” proved lucky for G. Shawver.  She picked her Mega Millions numbers from one of the games and it made her $250,000 richer!

The Detroit woman, who is a regular Lottery player, told Lottery officials that she waited for two days to check her ticket.  After seeing that she didn’t match the gold Mega ball number, she tossed her ticket aside until a store owner asked if she won anything.  When she looked at her ticket again, she discovered she matched the first five numbers to win the huge prize!

Shawver enjoys bowling in her free time and plans to invest, save and make home improvements with the prize money.

The winning own pick ticket was purchased at Daily’s Market, 4421 Joy Rd., in Detroit.

Mega Millions is a multi-state lottery game in Michigan, California, Georgia, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Texas, Virginia and Washington.  Wagers cost $1 each and tickets may be purchased at nearly 11,000 Michigan Lottery retailers statewide.

All proceeds from the Lottery are contributed to the state School Aid Fund which supports kindergarten through 12th grade public education in Michigan.  In fiscal year 2006, the contribution was $688 million.
