Kitty Cash competition underway Pets vie to appear on Lottery tickets

LANSING, June 28, 2006 – On the heels of the very successful Lucky Dog instant ticket, the Michigan Lottery is inviting players to submit photographs of their cats for Kitty Cash, a ticket to be launched this fall.

Kitty Cash entries are now being accepted through July 14 via Player City, the Lottery’s VIP Internet Club.  Player City can be accessed at www.playercity.net, where visitors will find instructions on how to submit their photos.

Kitty Cash represents the Lottery’s second contest in which players help determine the design of an instant ticket.  Earlier this year, the Lottery ran the Lucky Dog promotion, inviting players to submit photos of their dogs for inclusion on a ticket.  Over 1,000 dog photos were submitted and 10 lucky dogs appeared on the $1 instant tickets.

Lucky Dog debuted in April of this year and its 5.4 million run sold out in seven weeks.

Lottery Commissioner Gary Peters is anticipating the same success for Kitty Cash.

“We were amazed at the response to Lucky Dog and the passion that dog owners have for their pets,” Peters said.

“We know that there are “dog people” and likewise, “cat people”, so we expect a huge response to this contest,” Peters said.

Like Lucky Dog, Kitty Cash will be a $1 ticket with a top prize of $5,000, Peters said.

All proceeds from the Lottery are contributed to the state School Aid Fund which supports kindergarten through 12th grade public education in Michigan.  In fiscal year 2005, the contribution was $667.6 million.
