LANSING, May 4, 2006 – Darrell DeBaun is $10,000 richer after he matched four white balls, plus the Mega ball in the April 21 Mega Millions drawing.
The lucky winner, who has only been playing the Lottery for about two years, said he plans to use the prize money to make home improvements.
DeBaun hid the winning ticket in his pocket before cashing it in at the Sterling Heights Lottery office.
The winning easy-pick ticket was purchased at VG’s Food Center, 20 E. Walton Blvd., in Pontiac.
Mega Millions is a multi-state lottery game in Michigan, California, Georgia, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Texas, Virginia and Washington. Wagers cost $1 each and tickets may be purchased at more than 10,000 Michigan Lottery retailers statewide.
All proceeds from the Lottery are contributed to the state School Aid Fund which supports kindergarten through 12th grade public education in Michigan. In fiscal year 2005, the contribution was $667.6 million.
