LANSING, April 7, 2003 – A lucky Ada woman is a little richer thanks to the Michigan Lottery’s WINFALL game. After matching five of six numbers in the WINFALL drawing on Wednesday, March 12, she won a $35,607 prize! The winning numbers for that drawing were: 1, 13, 20, 24, 37 and 43.
In total for the March 12, 2003 WINFALL drawing, there were 17 lucky winners who will each receive $35,607 for matching five numbers; 1,199 winners who will each receive $1,060 for matching four numbers; and 23,360 winners who will each receive $49 for matching three numbers.
The lucky lady, who requested anonymity, purchased the winning ticket at Eli’s Eastown Shell Food,
1201 Michigan St. NE, in Grand Rapids. She chose her winning number combination based upon birthdays and ages of family members.
"I knew I had won, but I didn’t know I had won such a large prize until I turned it in at the Lottery’s regional office in Wyoming," said the 51-year-old winner. "I was shocked when the Lottery official told me I had won a $35,607 prize!"
The happy winner told Lottery officials that she kept the winning ticket in her wallet at all times to ensure its safety prior to claiming her prize. The winner, who enjoys watching sports and playing baseball in her free time, said she currently has no special plans for her winnings.
WINFALL drawings are held twice a week — Wednesday and Saturday — at 7:29 p.m., and the cost to play is
$1 per wager. Tickets are available at more than 7,200 Lottery retailers statewide.
Since it was created in 1972, the Michigan Lottery has returned over $11 billion to the state School Aid Fund, which supports K-12 public education in the state of Michigan.
