LANSING, June 13, 2002 – Richard Shanty of Muskegon and Norma Rodriguez of Ann Arbor are a little richer after both matching all five numbers in the June 8 Michigan Rolldown drawing, each winning an $8,163 prize. The winning numbers for that day’s drawing were: 3, 20, 24, 25 and 33.
The total pool for the June 8 Michigan Rolldown drawing was $16,326, so each jackpot winner received $8,163, before taxes. In total for the June 8 drawing, 16,694 winners shared $54,598 in prizes. In addition to the two jackpot winners, 52 winners matched four numbers to win a $128 prize; 1,664 winners matched three numbers to win a $10 prize; and 14,976 winners matched two numbers to win the $1 prize.
Shanty, a 49-year-old retiree, said he learned he had a jackpot-winning ticket upon looking up the winning numbers in the newspaper. He added that he kept the ticket in his wallet at all times to ensure its safety before turning it in at the Lottery’s regional office in Wyoming.
Shanty purchased the winning "easy pick" Rolldown ticket at Butch’s Gas and Convenience #2, 1768 W. Sherman Blvd., in Muskegon. The winner, who said he enjoys playing sports in his free time, said he does not yet have any special plans for his winnings, but there is no doubt he and his wife, Teresa, will enjoy their recent Lottery luck!
The second top-prize winner in the June 8 Michigan Rolldown drawing, Norma Rodriguez of Ann Arbor, purchased the winning ticket at Kroger #605, 2641 Plymouth Road, in Ann Arbor. The lucky lady said she kept the winning ticket in a safe place in her home to ensure its safety before turning it in at the Lottery’s regional office in Dearborn Heights.
I saw the numbers drawn on television," Rodriguez said. "I was so excited to learn I had matched all five numbers that I cried out, ‘Hallelujah!’"
Rodriguez, who said she enjoys gardening and doing yard work for others in her free time, said she chose her lucky number combination using birthdates of friends and family members. She added that she plans to use her winnings to pay bills.
Michigan Rolldown’s first drawing was held on February 28, 2000. Drawings are held six days a week—Monday through Saturday—at 7:28 p.m., and the cost to play is $1 per wager. Tickets are available at more than 7,000 Lottery retailers statewide.
