Dale Moore of Fostoria Benefits From Beginner's Luck; Wins $16,756 Michigan Rolldown Jackpot in May 15 Drawing!

LANSING, May 20, 2002 – Beginner’s luck was with Dale Moore of Fostoria, who has only played Michigan Lottery games for the past five months. Moore matched all five numbers in the May 15 Michigan Rolldown drawing to win a $16,756 jackpot prize, before taxes! The winning numbers for that day’s drawing were: 1, 3, 9, 21 and 31.

The winning "easy pick" ticket was purchased at Bo’s Village Peddler, 8268 State Road, in Millington.

In total for the May 15 drawing, 18,309 winners shared $57,708 in prizes. In addition to the sole jackpot winner, 76 winners matched four numbers to win a $90 prize; 1,985 winners matched three numbers to win a $9 prize; and 16,247 winners matched two numbers to win the $1 prize.

"I couldn’t believe it when I learned I had matched all five numbers," Moore said. "I had to stop a few times to get my thoughts together before it really sunk in."

Moore, a line assemblyman for General Motors, said he kept the winning ticket in his wallet at all times to ensure its safety before turning it in at the Lottery’s regional office in Bridgeport. The 53-year-old winner, who enjoys hunting and fishing in his free time, said he plans to save his winnings for the future.

Michigan Rolldown’s first drawing was held on February 28, 2000. Drawings are held six days a week—Monday through Saturday—at 7:28 p.m., and the cost to play is $1 per wager. Tickets are available at more than 7,000 Lottery retailers statewide.
