LANSING, May 10, 2002 – Walter Andrus of Oak Park and Nelson Conley of Eastpointe are a little richer after both matching all five numbers in the April 6 Michigan Rolldown drawing, each winning a $9,445 prize. The winning numbers for that day’s drawing were: 14, 19, 24, 26 and 33.
The total pool for the April 6 Michigan Rolldown drawing was $18,890, so each jackpot winner received $9,445, before taxes. In total for the April 6 drawing, 18,972 winners shared $63,105 in prizes. In addition to the two jackpot winners, 61 winners matched four numbers to win a $127 prize; 1,951 winners matched three numbers to win a $10 prize; and 16,958 winners matched two numbers to win the $1 prize.
Andrus, a 77-year-old retiree, said he used a combination of personal "lucky numbers" to select his winning numbers.
"When I saw the winning numbers in the Sunday paper, I was shocked to see they matched mine!" Andrus said.
Andrus purchased the winning Michigan Rolldown ticket at Oak Park Food Center,
8530 W. 9 Mile Road, in Oak Park. The winner, who said he enjoys golfing in his free time, said he does not yet have any special plans for his winnings.
The second top-prize winner in the April 6 Michigan Rolldown drawing, Nelson Conley of Eastpointe, purchased the winning "easy pick" ticket at M&A Eastland Liquor, 17001 E. 8 Mile Road,
in Eastpointe. The 53-year-old assemblyman for Chrysler said he kept the winning ticket in his wallet to ensure its safety before claiming his prize at the Lottery’s regional office in Sterling Heights.
The avid motorcyclist added that he plans to use his winnings to pay bills. There is no doubt he and his wife, Dolores, will enjoy their recent Lottery luck!
Michigan Rolldown’s first drawing was held on February 28, 2000. Drawings are held six days a week—Monday through Saturday—at 7:28 p.m., and the cost to play is $1 per wager. Tickets are available at more than 7,000 Lottery retailers statewide.
