May 4, 2000 — Michigan Lottery Announces Final Group of Winners in the Daily 3 & 4 "booKoo Cash" Second-Chance Sweepstakes!

LANSING, May 4, 2000 — The Michigan Lottery has completed the final drawing in its current Daily 3 & 4 second-chance sweepstakes and the winners are turning up in all parts of the state!  Top winners include:

    • Mattie Mathis of Lansing$10,000
    • Sharon Moffett of Fremont$5,000
    • Alvin Kenney of Detroit $5,000

Throughout the Daily 3 & 4 "booKoo Cash" promotion, the Lottery awarded each week for four weeks one grand prize of $10,000; two second prizes of $5,000; 25 third prizes of $1,500; and 100 fourth prizes of a Daily 3 & 4 baseball cap. There were a total of 512 lucky winners from all areas of the state. Lottery officials were able to speak to two of the three top-prize winners after the drawing.

"Oh my goodness, I won!" screamed Lansing resident Mattie Mathis, after she learned of her $10,000 win. "I am so excited! I can’t believe it. Thank you so much!"

The 54-year-old General Motors employee has been a regular Michigan Lottery player for the past ten years. She said she doesn’t yet know what she will do with her winnings. She said she will have to "think about it."

Mathis’s winning entry included Daily 3 & 4 tickets purchased at Caravan Food Center, 2305 W. Michigan Ave., in Lansing; Sav Way #1, 2317 W. Michigan Ave., in Lansing and Harry’s Place, 404 N. Verlinden Ave., in Lansing.

Alvin Kenney of Detroit expressed similar sentiments when Lottery officials told him he was a $5,000 second-prize winner.

"Thank you!" exclaimed Kenney. "I am very surprised and happy! I am going to put the money to good use."

The 62-year-old U.S. Postal Service employee, who has been playing Lottery games for the past 27 years, said he plans to use his winnings to pay bills.

Kenney’s winning entry included Daily 3 & 4 tickets purchased at Food Giant Supermarket, 14040 Greenfield Road, in Detroit and Fenkell Super Foods, 16159 Fenkell St., in Detroit.

Sharon Moffett’s winning entry included Daily 3 & 4 tickets purchased at K Discount Outlet, 1 W. Broadway Ave., in Muskegon Heights and Freshway Foods Inc., 1270 Holton Road, in Muskegon.

In addition to the three cash prizes mentioned above, the Lottery gave away 25 $1,500 cash prizes to these "booKoo Cash" third-place winners:

Michigan Lottery players entered the Daily 3 & 4 "booKoo Cash" second-chance sweepstakes by sending in two non-winning Daily 3 or 4 mid-day tickets and two non-winning Daily 3 or 4 evening tickets (in any combination) for drawings held between March 27, 2000 and April 22, 2000.
