LANSING, October 7, 1999 – An Allen woman couldn’t contain her excitement when she realized she had won the $100,000 top prize in the Michigan Lottery’s Cash 5 game!
The 63-year-old winner, who requested anonymity, matched all five numbers in the October 1 Cash 5 drawing – 3, 4, 26, 27 and 36. The winning Cash 5 "easy pick" ticket was purchased at Jonesville Citgo, 420 S. M-99, in Jonesville.
"I called the Lottery’s toll-free number (800-822-8888) to get the winning numbers," the winner said. "When I saw that I had matched all five numbers, I thought I must have heard the recording wrong. I called back and got the numbers again, but still couldn’t believe it! Finally, I called a local store to get the numbers from them and at that point I realized I had really won. I immediately started jumping up and down and screaming! I knew I would win big money with the Lottery someday – I just didn’t know when!"
When not playing bingo or golfing, the lucky lady enjoys playing Michigan Lottery games. She has been a regular Lottery player for the past 27 years, and her favorites are Michigan Lotto, The Big Game and, of course, Cash 5.
The retiree said she plans to use her winnings to purchase a new car and take a vacation. Prior to turning the winning ticket in at Lottery headquarters in Lansing, she placed it in a lock box to ensure its safety.
She offered the following words of wisdom to other Lottery hopefuls: "Just hang in there and keep playing. You can’t win if you don’t play!"
Cash 5 drawings are conducted every Monday through Friday at 7:28 p.m. Players can win $100,000 for matching all five winning numbers; $350 for matching four of five numbers drawn; or $20 for matching three of five numbers drawn.
Tickets are available for Cash 5 and other Michigan Lottery on-line games at more than 6,400 Lottery retailers throughout the state.
