LANSING, January 13, 1999 – A Marshall man is now $100,000 richer after winning the top prize in the Michigan Lottery’s Cash 5 game!
The 57-year-old winner, who requested anonymity, collected the game’s $100,000 top prize by matching all five numbers in the December 23 drawing – 5, 19, 28, 29 and 39. The winning ticket was purchased at Wacky Willy’s Party Time, 515 S. Kalamazoo Ave., in Marshall.
The avid hunter and fisherman said he has been playing the Michigan Lottery for the past 26 years, and he regularly plays the same numbers on Cash 5, Lotto and The Big Game. His regular Cash 5 numbers, which are based on family birthdates and addresses, turned out to be the winning combination!
"My neighbor looked the winning numbers up on the Michigan Lottery’s Web site for me and I checked my ticket against those numbers," he said. "I couldn’t believe I had won so I called the closest party store to verify the numbers with them, and then I called the Lottery office in Lansing to check them again. I was shocked to find out that I had actually won!"
Prior to collecting his prize at the Lottery headquarters in Lansing, the Marshall man put the winning ticket in a safe deposit box. He said he plans to use his winnings to pay bills and make investments.
Cash 5 drawings are conducted every Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. Odds to win the $100,000 top prize are 1 in 575,757. Tickets are available at more than 6,400 Michigan Lottery retailers statewide.
