Roy Griffor Sr. Of China Township Wins $150,000 Prize In Michigan Lottery's Big Game!

LANSING, September 24, 1997 – A St. Clair County man is the latest winner to collect a top prize in the Michigan Lottery’s Big Game!

China Township resident Roy Griffor Sr. matched the first five numbers in The Big Game drawing on September 5 for a prize of $150,000!  That day’s winning numbers were: 14, 15, 25, 26, 42, and the Big Money Ball number was 3.

"I checked the numbers in the Port Huron Times Herald and saw I didn’t match the gold ball," said Griffor.  "I told my wife, ‘I think we won 150!’  She thought I meant one hundred fifty dollars, not one hundred fifty thousand dollars!  She said it was just unbelievable."

Griffor has been a regular Michigan Lottery player since 1972.  The 66-year-old retiree said he and his wife, Mary Ann, would use their winnings to make home improvements and build a new garage.

The winning Big Game ticket was purchased at Corner Grocery, 339 Fairbanks St., in Marine City.

The Big Game offers nine ways to win cash prizes.  Players pay $1 for each play, and choose five numbers from 1 to 50, as well as one additional number from 1 to 25.

Friday’s (September 26) Big Game jackpot is estimated at $5 million.
