Southfield Man Wins $2 Million Powerball Prize from the Michigan Lottery

Winning TicketA Southfield man says winning a $2 million Powerball prize from the Michigan Lottery is a “blessing” for his family.

Ralph Davis, 74, matched the five white balls – 14-31-35-64-69 – in the Jan. 18 Powerball drawing to win a $1 million prize. Thanks to the Power Play, the prize was multiplied to $2 million. He bought his winning ticket at Sage Beer and Wine, located at 3008 Greenfield Road in Royal Oak.

“I always buy my Powerball ticket at the same store,” said Davis. “The day after the drawing, my wife sat down to check the tickets. When she said to me: ‘We won the Lottery!’ I was thinking we’d won $50 or something. That’s when she said: ‘No, it’s $1 million times two!’

“I was floored and must have looked at the ticket 30 times to be sure we were seeing it correctly. Winning is such a blessing for my family. We can give more to charities and share this with the people who mean the most to us.”

“Adding the Power Play option to his ticket paid off in a big way for Mr. Davis,” said Lottery Commissioner Suzanna Shkreli. “Getting a $2 million return on a $3 ticket is incredible and I am happy to hear this prize will have a positive impact on Ralph and his family.”

Davis recently visited Lottery headquarters to claim his prize. He plans to share his winnings with his family.
