“I played 6-6-6 on a couple of Daily 3 tickets and won big,” said the lucky player, who chose to remain anonymous. “I decided to take $100 of my winnings and buy some Fast Cash tickets because the jackpot was so huge.

“As soon as the clerk handed me the tickets, I ran my eyes over them to see if I had won anything. I was absolutely shocked to see that I had hit the jackpot for $2.39 million! We started celebrating in the store and then I got to make the best phone call I’ve ever made to my family and friends to tell them the news! Everyone has been so happy for me and my wife!”

“Winning a $500 prize for matching the Daily 3 is great but turning that into a record-setting $2.39 million Fast Cash progressive jackpot win is incredible,” said Lottery Commissioner Suzanna Shkreli. “Fast Cash games are great for players because they feature exciting prizes and great for retailers because the progressive jackpot attracts players as it grows and grows.”

The lucky player bought his winning ticket at King’s Corner Market of Owosso, located at 701 North Washington Street in Owosso. The big prize set a record for the largest prize ever won on the Fast Cash games. The previous record was set in November 2019, when Rodney Stokoszynski, of Wayne County won a $1.84 million Fast Cash progressive.

The player recently visited Lottery headquarters to claim his prize. With his winnings, he plans to pay bills and then invest the remainder.

Fast Cash games are a series of instant-win games that print from terminals at Lottery retailers. Fast Cash tickets range in price from $2 per play up to $30 per play.

Cass County Man Wins $1 Million Powerball Prize from the Michigan Lottery

Winning TicketA Cass County man sprang out of bed when he learned the store where he bought his Powerball ticket had sold a $1 million winner!

“I woke up the morning after the drawing, and checked the alerts on my phone,” said Robert Cusumano, 65. “Right there on the screen, was an alert that a $1 million Powerball prize had been won on a ticket bought at Big T.

“As soon as I saw that, I jumped out of bed and went hunting for my ticket. I looked it over slowly and there were all five numbers right in front of me. It was incredible!”

“Waking up to a $1 million prize would be a dream come true, and a life changing moment,” said Lottery Commissioner Suzanna Shkreli. “Congratulations to Robert and his family!”

Cusumano matched the five white balls in the March 1 drawing to win the big prize: 02-23-36-44-49. He bought his winning ticket at Big T, located at 155 Main Street in Lawton. Lawton is about 20 miles southwest of Kalamazoo.

“I play pretty regularly and buy tickets wherever I happen to be,” said Cusumano. “This is the most I have ever won, and I am going to use it to invest in my future.”

Powerball plays may be purchased for $2 each at Lottery retailers across the state and online at MichiganLottery.com. A “Power Play” option that multiplies non-jackpot prizes by up to 10 times to a maximum of $2 million may be added to any Powerball play for only $1. For an additional $1 per play, Double Play may be added to a Powerball ticket, giving players a second chance to win up to $10 million in the nightly Double Play drawing.

Shiawassee County Man Wins $200,000 Club Keno Prize from the Michigan Lottery

Richard LakeA Shiawassee County man got an unbeatable birthday gift when he won $200,000 playing the Michigan Lottery’s Club Keno game!

Richard Lake, 76, won $100,000 when his Club Keno numbers – 01-10-11-21-29-38-49-70-72-77 – matched 10 of the 20 Club Keno numbers drawn in draw 2430389 on Feb. 9. Thanks to The KICKER, the prize was multiplied to $200,000. He bought his winning ticket at American Legion Post No. 248, located at 1240 West Grand River Road in Laingsburg. Laingsburg is located 20 miles northeast of Lansing.

“I love playing Club KenoWinning Ticket and play often at the American Legion,” said Lake. “I was there on my birthday and bought a ticket just before I left. When I stopped at a party store later in the day, I checked my ticket and was very happily surprised that I had won $200,000!”

Lake visited Lottery headquarters recently to claim the big prize. He plans to invest his winnings.

Club Keno gives players 37 different ways to play and win. Players select up to 10 numbers to match from one to 80, with prize amounts determined based on the amount the player wagered. A Kent County woman turned a Michigan Lottery deposit promotion into a $495,002 prize playing the Michigan Jackpot online instant draw game at MichiganLottery.com.

“I got an email from the Michigan Lottery for an online promotion, so I decided to test my luck on the Michigan Jackpot game,” said the player, who chose to remain anonymous. “Within my first five plays, I won $500! I told myself I would cash out if I got down to $300, and just before I did, I hit for the jackpot!

“My husband wasn’t home, so I called him screaming to tell him that I had just won, and he asked: ‘Are you sure you have the comma in the right place?’”

Oakland County Educator Wins Excellence in Education Award from the Michigan Lottery

An Oakland County educator who goes above and beyond for her students and colleagues has been honored with an Excellence in Education award from the Michigan Lottery.

The award winner, Antoneta Gjolaj, is a math and reading interventionist at Graham Elementary. The school is part of the Avondale School District.

The Michigan Lottery established the Excellence in Education awards in 2014 to recognize outstanding public-school educators across the state during the school year.

Winners of the weekly award receive a $2,000 cash prize. At the end of the school year, one of the weekly award winners will be selected to receive the Lottery’s Educator of the Year award and will receive a $10,000 cash prize.

Each winner also is featured in a news segment on the Lottery’s media partner stations: WXYZ-TV in Detroit, FOX 17 in Grand Rapids, FOX 47 in Lansing, WNEM-TV in Saginaw, and WWTV-TV in Traverse City. The news segment featuring Gjolaj will air this evening.

“Mrs. Gjolaj is known as a leader in her school because of her commitment to her students and colleagues. Her lifelong appreciation for education is evident – from being a young student in Montenegro, to pursuing a college education in Kosovo during the crisis, to now teaching students here in Michigan, Mrs. Gjolaj understands the power and importance of a quality education. She is someone students trust and can turn to when they are struggling or need help,” said Lottery Commissioner Suzanna Shkreli. “Mrs. Gjolaj is an educator who has been committed to student success for more than two decades and she is incredibly deserving of this award.”

Gjolaj says being raised in a family of teachers and having great teachers throughout her life led her to pursue a career in education.

“Being raised in a family of teachers and being surrounded by great teachers all my life ignited my passion and dream of becoming a teacher from a young age. There is nothing more rewarding than working with our youth and being able to leave an impact on someone’s life. Knowing that you made a difference is the biggest achievement on a professional and personal level. Throughout my college years I had some great professors that left a remarkable impact on me as an individual.”

Gjolaj was nominated for the award by a colleague.

“Mrs. Gjolaj is the most passionate, hands-on, and positive teacher I have ever come across. The Avondale School district is lucky to have her. She is always going above and beyond for her kids to enhance students experience in the school. Not only do the students get excited for her class, but she’s one of those teachers that students know they can go to when they are struggling. She is consistently trying to better herself as a teacher and never has an off day. Not only is she great with her students, but she also is such a hard worker, always helping her colleagues out and is very respectful with parents. Graham is a Title I school and has children from a diverse student body – while others may step away from that, Mrs. Gjolaj embraces it and welcomes everyone with open arms and genuinely wants to see her students do well. Mrs. Gjolaj uses her diverse background to relate to students and goes above and beyond as an educator and a role model.”

Gjolaj earned a bachelor’s degree from Oakland University and a master’s degree from Cornerstone University. She has been an educator for 23 years, the last six in her current position.

Excellence in Education award nominees are evaluated on the following criteria:

  • Excellence – Their work consistently helps students and/or their schools or school districts advance to higher levels of academic achievement.
  • Dedication – They consistently go above and beyond expectations to help students succeed.
