Powerball Jackpot Soars to $1.8 Billion

PowerballThe second largest jackpot in history is up for grabs in Saturday’s $1.8 billion Powerball drawing. The cash option for the jackpot is $826.4 million.

“Anticipation is high across the state as we head into the weekend with a $1.8 billion Powerball jackpot up for grabs Saturday,” said Lottery Commissioner Suzanna Shkreli. “Michiganders have won millions in prizes since the current Powerball jackpot run began, including three $1 million prizes and one $2 million prize, and I hope the winning streak continues with a billionaire in Michigan Saturday night!”

If a player wins the jackpot, it would be the second largest Powerball jackpot ever won and the second largest jackpot in U.S. Lottery history.

Saturday’s drawing will be the 42nd drawing in the jackpot run, which is Powerball’s longest stretch without a jackpot winner. The previous record was 41 consecutive drawings, which has occurred three times before. Those jackpot runs resulted in jackpots of:

  • $1.326 billion won on April 6, 2024.
  • $2.04 billion won on Nov. 7, 2022.
  • $699.8 million won on Oct. 4, 2021.

Since the Powerball jackpot run began June 2, Michigan Lottery players have won more than $12 million in prizes, including three $1 million prizes and one $2 million prize.

The Powerball jackpot was last won in Michigan on Jan. 1, 2024, by a Mid-Michigan lottery club. The club won a $842.4 million Powerball jackpot with a ticket purchased in Grand Blanc. That jackpot is the largest Powerball prize ever won in Michigan.

Lottery retailers throughout the state are selling Powerball tickets until 9:58 p.m. Saturday. Tickets also may be purchased online at MichiganLottery.com.

Powerball plays may be purchased for $2 each at Lottery retailers across the state and online at MichiganLottery.com. A “Power Play” option that multiplies non-jackpot prizes by up to 10 times to a maximum of $2 million may be added to any Powerball play for only $1. For an additional $1 per play, Double Play may be added to a Powerball ticket, giving players a second chance to win up to $10 million in the nightly Double Play drawing.

The Powerball drawing takes place at 10:59 p.m. on Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday and may be watched live online at: http://www.powerball.com. Powerball tickets are sold in 45 states, Washington D.C., U.S. Virgin Islands, and Puerto Rico.

$2 Million Powerball Prize Won in Detroit

For the second time this week, a lucky Michigander is a millionaire thanks to the Powerball game!

“A lucky player who bought a Powerball ticket in Detroit is waking up to a big $2 million win! Congratulations to Michigan’s newest millionaire,” said Lottery Commissioner Suzanna Shkreli. “The jackpot is still growing, and so is the excitement for Saturday night’s drawing!”

The lucky player matched the five white balls – 03-16-29-61-69 – in last night’s Powerball drawing to win a $1 million prize. Thanks to the Power Play, the prize was multiplied to $2 million. The winning ticket was bought at the Sunkiss Market, located at 13535 Puritan Street in Detroit.

This is the second time this week a Michigan player has won big playing Powerball. On Monday night, a lucky player won $1 million with a ticket bought at the CVS Pharmacy, located at 18585 East Warren Avenue in Grosse Pointe.

The Powerball jackpot stands at $1.70 billion for the next drawing on Saturday night. The jackpot has an estimated cash value of $770.3 million. Saturday’s Powerball jackpot ranks as the third-largest jackpot in U.S. lottery history, only behind the world-record $2.04 billion Powerball jackpot won on Nov. 7, 2022, and the $1.765 billion Powerball jackpot won on Oct. 11, 2023.

Saturday’s drawing will be the 42nd since the Powerball jackpot was last won on May 31, 2025, in California. The current streak is the game record for the most consecutive drawings without a jackpot winner. Previously, the record stood at 41 drawings, which occurred last on April 6, 2024, with a $1.326 billion jackpot won in Oregon.

Powerball plays may be purchased for $2 each at Lottery retailers across the state and online at MichiganLottery.com. A “Power Play” option that multiplies non-jackpot prizes by up to 10 times to a maximum of $2 million may be added to any Powerball play for only $1. St. Joseph County Man Wins $2 Million Playing the Michigan Lottery’s $2,000,000 Lucky Instant Game

Winning TicketA St. Joseph County man is looking forward to an early retirement after winning $2 million playing the Michigan Lottery’s $2,000,000 Lucky instant game.

“I typically only play $5 and $10 tickets, but $2,000,000 Lucky was one of the newer games at the store I usually go to, so I gave it a try,” said the 66-year-old player, who chose to remain anonymous. “Game five was the last part of the ticket I scratched, so when I revealed the first ‘$2MIL’ symbol I thought: ‘Well this ticket is a loser,’ because I never thought I’d actually win the $2 million top prize.

“When I scratched off the second ‘$2MIL’ symbol I went back into the store and had the worker scan it. He handed me a slip that said to file a claim at the Lottery office and that’s when I knew I just won $2 million!”

“Trying out a new game paid off in a big way for this lucky player who won $2 million playing the $2,000,000 Lucky instant game,” said Lottery Commissioner Suzanna Shkreli. “Congratulations to the player and his wife on their life-changing win and on an early retirement!”

The player bought his winning ticket at Lightning Quick Gas N Go #11, located at 1560 East Chicago Road in Sturgis. Sturgis is about 40 miles southeast of Kalamazoo. He recently visited Lottery headquarters to claim the big prize. He chose to receive his prize as a one-time lump sum payment of about $1.3 million, rather than annuity payments for the full amount. With his winnings, he plans to travel and retire early.

“Although I’m still trying to wrap my head around winning $2 million, it’s nice to know my wife and I will now be able to retire earlier that we planned.”

Players have won more than $27 million playing $2,000,000 Lucky, which launched in May. Each $20 ticket offers players a chance to win prizes ranging from $20 up to $2 million. More than $77 million in prizes remain, including two $2 million top prizes, and 52 $2,000 prizes.

In 2024, Lottery players won nearly $1.8 billion playing instant games.

Lottery instant games may be purchased at retailers across the state.
