Cass County Man Wins $100,000 Powerball Prize from the Michigan Lottery

Winning TicketA Cass County man was shocked when he found out his Powerball ticket was worth $100,000.

Herman Baker, of Vandalia, matched four white balls and the Powerball – 04-06-25-55-68, PB: 26– in the August 28 drawing to win a $50,000 prize. Thanks to the Power Play, the prize was multiplied to $100,000. He bought his winning ticket at the Shell gas station, located at 1801 North Main Street in Three Rivers. Vandalia is about 40 miles southwest of Kalamazoo.

“I buy Powerball tickets here and there,” said Baker. “When I checked the winning numbers after the drawing and saw I’d won $100,000, I was shocked!”

Baker, 58, recently visited Lottery headquarters to claim his prize. He plans to save his winnings.

Powerball plays may be purchased for $2 each at Lottery retailers across the state and online at MichiganLottery.com. A “Power Play” option that multiplies non-jackpot prizes by up to 10 times to a maximum of $2 million may be added to any Powerball play for only $1. Powerball Jackpot Climbs to $1.4 Billion for Saturday’s Drawing

PowerballA Michigan Lottery player could be a billionaire if they win Saturday’s huge $1.4 billion Powerball jackpot! The cash option for the jackpot is $614 million.

If a lucky player wins Saturday’s Powerball jackpot, it would be the third largest Powerball jackpot ever won and the fifth largest jackpot in U.S. Lottery history.

Saturday’s drawing will be the 34th drawing since the Powerball jackpot was last won on July 19. One ticket purchased in California won the $1.08 billion jackpot. The jackpot was the largest Powerball jackpot won this year and the third largest jackpot in Powerball history. This is the first time that two consecutive jackpot runs have produced billion-dollar jackpots in the Powerball game.

During the current jackpot run, which began July 22, Michigan Lottery players have purchased more than 22 million tickets at retailers and have won nearly $11 million in prizes, including four $1 million prizes and one $2 million prize:

  • Aug. 26 – $1 million winning ticket was purchased at Wild Bills Tobacco Livonia III, located at 27424 6 Mile Road in Livonia.
  • Sept. 11 – $1 million winning ticket was purchased at Kristi’s Pour House, located at 211 East Main Street in Hart.
  • Sept. 23 – $2 million winning ticket was purchased online at MichiganLottery.com.
  • Sept. 30 – $1 million winning ticket was purchased at the 7-Eleven, located at 34951 Garfield Road in Fraser.
  • Oct. 2 – $1 million winning ticket was purchased at Purk’s Inc., located at 875 East Lincoln in Ionia.

The last Michigan player to win a Powerball jackpot was Cristy Davis, of Waterford. Davis won the game’s $70 million jackpot on Feb. 12, 2020.

Players have plenty of time to purchase tickets for the drawing. Lottery retailers throughout the state are selling Powerball tickets until 9:45 p.m. Saturday. Tickets also may be purchased online at MichiganLottery.com.

Clinton County Man Wins $2 Million Powerball Prize from the Michigan Lottery

PowerballA Clinton County man purchased a Powerball ticket on a whim and won a $2 million prize.

Zach Birchmeier, of Fowler, matched the five white balls – 01-12-20-33-66 – in the Sept. 23 drawing to win a $1 million prize. Thanks to the Power Play, the prize was multiplied to $2 million. He bought his winning ticket online at MichiganLottery.com.

“I don’t usually play Powerball, but I decided to buy a ticket on a whim while I was online,” said Birchmeier. “After the drawing, I saw an email from the Lottery with instructions on claiming my prize. When I logged in to my account and saw $2 million pending, I was in shock!”

Birchmeier, 31, recently visited Lottery headquarters to claim his prize. With his winnings, he plans to build a house and invest.

“You see this happen to other people, but you never think it will happen to you, so it all still feels surreal,” said Birchmeier.

The Powerball jackpot was last won on July 19. One ticket purchased in California won the $1.08 billion jackpot. The current jackpot stands at $1.4 billion.

Cheboygan Woman Wins $169,674 Fantasy 5 Jackpot from the Michigan Lottery

Tammie Pelton, 52, matched the winning Fantasy 5 numbers on Sept. 23 – 06-11-24-29-35 – to win the big prize. She bought her winning ticket online at MichiganLottery.com.

“I played the Daily Spin to Win game and won a bonus credit, so I used the bonus credit to play a game online and won $100,” said Pelton. “I used some of my winnings to purchase Powerball tickets and then saw the Fantasy 5 jackpot was over $150,000, so I purchased a few Fantasy 5 tickets too.

“When I logged in to my account a few days later, a pop-up came up saying I’d won a $169,674 Fantasy 5 jackpot prize. I had to triple check my account balance to make sure I wasn’t seeing things! I woke up my husband and showed him the message. He was confused and asked who won, so I yelled: ‘We did!’ We are still having a hard time believing this is real.”

Pelton recently visited Lottery headquarters to claim the big prize. With her winnings, she plans to take a trip and invest.
