A Lansing woman thought she was having a heart attack when she found out she won $25,000 a year for life playing Lucky For Life with a ticket purchased from a lucky spot in Mount Pleasant!

Kathy Forquer, 67, won the big prize when her Lucky For Life ticket matched the five white balls drawn on Feb. 10: 13-18-25-27-30.

“I was a regular Lucky For Life player, and I bought this ticket up in Mount Pleasant when I was visiting my sister,” said Forquer. “I checked it at 6 a.m. the morning after the drawing and thought I was having a heart attack when I saw I’d won $25,000 a year for life!

“It feels surreal that I’m here claiming such a large prize. My heart feels like it’s beating out of my chest!”

Forquer visited Lottery headquarters recently to claim her prize. She chose to receive her winnings as a one-time lump sum payment of $390,000, rather than payments of $25,000 a year for 20 years or life, whichever is greater. With her winnings, she plans to purchase a new car and then save the remainder.

Forquer bought her winning ticket at Borders Corner Store, located at 7024 East Pickard Road in Mount Pleasant.

While it’s impossible to predict when a retailer may sell a big winner, Borders Corner Store has been especially lucky for Michigan Lottery players. The retailer has sold four prizes of more than $100,000 since 2023. In addition to the $25,000 a year for life Lucky For Life prize claimed by Forquer, the retailer has also sold the following big winners:

• Jan. 2023: $1 million Black & Gold instant game prize claimed by a Gladwin County man.
• Feb. 2024: $25,000 a year for life Lucky For Life prize claimed by Dina Russel of Flushing.
• April 2024: $115,000 Fantasy 5 jackpot claimed by an Isabella County man.

The Lucky For Life game was replaced by the new Millionaire For Life game on Feb. 22. Forquer claimed the final $25,000 a year for life prize won in Michigan.
