A Luce County man had to put his glasses on to make sure he was seeing things clearly when he checked his Fantasy 5 ticket and found out he won half of a $980,840 jackpot – $490,420 – from the Michigan Lottery!

The 54-year-old player, who chose to remain anonymous, matched the winning Fantasy 5 numbers on Feb. 2 – 01-23-24-31-36 – to win half of the $980,840 jackpot. He bought his winning ticket at Newberry BP, located at 7161 State Highway M123 in Newberry.

“I have been playing Fantasy 5 for a long time, and I usually play every day,” said the player. “When I checked my ticket and saw I’d matched all the numbers, I had to put my glasses on and look it over a second time to make sure I was seeing things clearly. When I counted all five numbers again, I yelled: ‘I think I just won the lottery!’

“After that, I got on the Michigan Lottery app and had to scan the ticket a few times on the ticket checker to make sure it was real. It was pretty exciting!”

The lucky player recently visited Lottery headquarters to claim his prize. With his winnings, he plans to complete some home improvements and then save the remainder.

Each Fantasy 5 play is only $1. For an additional $1 per play, EZmatch may be added to a Fantasy 5 ticket, giving players a chance to win up to $500 instantly. For an additional $1 per play, Double Play may be added to a Fantasy 5 ticket, giving players a second chance to win up to $110,000 in the nightly Double Play drawing. Players may win prizes in the regular nightly drawing, the Double Play drawing, or both. Fantasy 5 players select five numbers from one to 39. Players who match all five Fantasy 5 numbers drawn win a jackpot that starts at $100,000.

Fantasy 5 drawings are held seven days a week at 7:29 p.m. Tickets may be purchased at a retailer or online at MichiganLottery.com until 7:08 p.m. on the day of the drawing.
