A Wayne County man thought the lucky spot scanner was broken when he scanned his Fantasy 5 ticket, only to find out he’d won a $230,740 Fantasy 5 jackpot!

Walter Lawson Jr., of New Boston, matched the Fantasy 5 numbers in the Oct. 31 drawing to win the big prize: 10-20-23-24-39. He bought his winning ticket at Aaa Petroleum Inc., located at 29450 Sibley Road in Romulus.

“I always check my tickets at the lucky spot scanner, and when I scanned this ticket, I thought the scanner was broken because of the message that came up,” said Lawson Jr. “I read the message to the cashier, and she told me they had sold a big jackpot winner, so maybe it was me.

“I checked the winning numbers and was thrilled to find out I was the winner of a $230,740 jackpot! I play Fantasy 5 every day, and it definitely paid off.”

Lawson Jr., 58, recently visited Lottery headquarters to claim his jackpot. With his winnings, he plans to complete some home improvements, pay off his daughter’s student loans, and then save the remainder.

Each Fantasy 5 play is only $1. For an additional $1 per play, EZmatch may be added to a Fantasy 5 ticket, giving players a chance to win up to $500 instantly. For an additional $1 per play, Double Play may be added to a Fantasy 5 ticket, giving players a second chance to win up to $110,000 in the nightly Double Play drawing. Players may win prizes in the regular nightly drawing, the Double Play drawing, or both. Fantasy 5 players select five numbers from one to 39. Players who match all five Fantasy 5 numbers drawn win a jackpot that starts at $100,000.

Fantasy 5 drawings are held seven days a week at 7:29 p.m. Tickets may be purchased at a retailer or online at MichiganLottery.com until 7:08 p.m. on the day of the drawing.
