Powerball Jackpot Soars to $1.8 Billion

PowerballThe second largest jackpot in history is up for grabs in Saturday’s $1.8 billion Powerball drawing. The cash option for the jackpot is $826.4 million.

“Anticipation is high across the state as we head into the weekend with a $1.8 billion Powerball jackpot up for grabs Saturday,” said Lottery Commissioner Suzanna Shkreli. “Michiganders have won millions in prizes since the current Powerball jackpot run began, including three $1 million prizes and one $2 million prize, and I hope the winning streak continues with a billionaire in Michigan Saturday night!”

If a player wins the jackpot, it would be the second largest Powerball jackpot ever won and the second largest jackpot in U.S. Lottery history.

Saturday’s drawing will be the 42nd drawing in the jackpot run, which is Powerball’s longest stretch without a jackpot winner. The previous record was 41 consecutive drawings, which has occurred three times before. Those jackpot runs resulted in jackpots of:

  • $1.326 billion won on April 6, 2024.
  • $2.04 billion won on Nov. 7, 2022.
  • $699.8 million won on Oct. 4, 2021.

Since the Powerball jackpot run began June 2, Michigan Lottery players have won more than $12 million in prizes, including three $1 million prizes and one $2 million prize.

The Powerball jackpot was last won in Michigan on Jan. 1, 2024, by a Mid-Michigan lottery club. The club won a $842.4 million Powerball jackpot with a ticket purchased in Grand Blanc. That jackpot is the largest Powerball prize ever won in Michigan.

Lottery retailers throughout the state are selling Powerball tickets until 9:58 p.m. Saturday. Tickets also may be purchased online at MichiganLottery.com.

Powerball plays may be purchased for $2 each at Lottery retailers across the state and online at MichiganLottery.com. A “Power Play” option that multiplies non-jackpot prizes by up to 10 times to a maximum of $2 million may be added to any Powerball play for only $1. For an additional $1 per play, Double Play may be added to a Powerball ticket, giving players a second chance to win up to $10 million in the nightly Double Play drawing.

The Powerball drawing takes place at 10:59 p.m. on Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday and may be watched live online at: http://www.powerball.com. Powerball tickets are sold in 45 states, Washington D.C., U.S. Virgin Islands, and Puerto Rico.
