The lucky player, who chose to remain anonymous, bought his winning ticket at Mario’s Corner Market, located 49011 Romeo Plank Road in Macomb.
“I purchased all different kinds of tickets while I was at the store one day,” said the player. “When I got home, I thought: ‘I’ve been having a good day, so I better scratch these now while I’m feeling lucky!’
“I picked up the $500 a Week for Life ticket first, and the $500 a week for life prize was the first thing I scratched. I couldn’t believe it!”
The 35-year-old player visited Lottery headquarters to claim his prize. He chose to receive his prize as a one-time lump sum payment of about $553,000 rather than rather than annual payments of $26,000 for 20 years or life, whichever is greater. He plans save his winnings.
“Winning is such an amazing feeling. I feel blessed,” the player said.
Players won more than $5 million playing $500 a Week for Life which launched in July 2020. Each $1 ticket offered players a chance to win prizes ranging from $1 up to $500 a week for life.
Lottery instant games may be purchased at 10,500 retailers across the state.
In 2020, Lottery players won more than $1.5 billion playing instant games.
