An Illinois woman had an unforgettable trip to Michigan when she won $500,000 playing the Michigan Lottery’s Triple Bonus Cashword instant game.

Amy Lanigan, of Evergreen Park, won the big prize on a ticket she bought at the Speedway gas station, located at 635 East 16th Street in Holland. Evergreen Park is a suburb south of Chicago.

“My husband’s parents are selling some property in Harbor Springs, so we made an impromptu trip up north to clean it up,” said Lanigan, 38. “My husband bought me a couple tickets and I won a little bit, so on our way home we stopped to get more.

Winning ticket.

Winning ticket.

“As he was driving, I scratched the ticket and nearly jumped out of my seat when I saw how many words I had. I asked my 11-year-old daughter to count them and she confirmed I had won $500,000. My husband pulled off at the next exit so I could get the ticket checked. When the clerk scanned it and handed me the slip that said to go to the Lottery office, I screamed: ‘Oh my God!’”

Lanigan and her husband, Stephen, visited Lottery headquarters Thursday to claim the big prize. With their big prize, the couple plans to pay off their home, buy a new car, set up a college fund for their daughter, and take a family vacation.

“Winning means we can finally pay off our house and be debt free. It’s an incredible weight off our shoulders,” Lanigan said.

Players have won more than $37 million playing Triple Bonus Cashword, which launched in November 2017. Each $10 ticket offers players a chance to win prizes ranging from $10 up to $500,000.

Lottery instant games may be purchased at 11,000 retailers across the state.

In 2017, Lottery players won more than $960 million playing instant games.
