Thai Van Nguyen, 44, matched four of the white balls and the Powerball – 15-29-31-37-43 PB: 16 – in the Dec. 19 drawing to win a $50,000 prize. Thanks to the Powerplay, his prize was multiplied by two for a $100,000 prize. He bought the winning ticket at Sammy’s Place, located at 4 West 16th Street in Holland.
“I play Powerball regularly, but have never played the Powerplay,” said Van Nguyen. “I was at the store purchasing my ticket when I decided to try it for the first time.
“I scanned the ticket the next day and received the message to visit a claim center. When I checked the numbers online and saw I matched four white balls and the Powerball, I was in shock.”
Van Nguyen visited Lottery headquarters Wednesday to claim the big prize. With his winnings, he plans to pay off his mortgage and then save the remainder.
Powerball plays may be purchased for $2 each at Lottery retailers across the state and online at MichiganLottery.com. A “Power Play” option that multiplies non-jackpot prizes by up to 10 times to a maximum of $2 million may be added to any Powerball play for only $1.
The Powerball drawing takes place at 10:59 p.m. on Wednesday and Saturday and may be watched live online at: http://www.powerball.com. Powerball tickets are sold in 44 states, Washington D.C., U.S. Virgin Islands, and Puerto Rico.
