Detroit Woman Wins $1 Million Playing the Michigan Lottery’s $1,000,000 Gold Rush Instant Game

A Detroit woman was shaking after winning $1 million playing the Michigan Lottery’s $1 million Gold Rush instant game.

The lucky player, who chose to remain anonymous, bought her winning ticket at Ray’s Party Shoppe, located at 21369 Gratiot Avenue in Eastpointe.

“I scratched the ticket at Ray’s and started shaking when I saw I won $1 million,” said the player. “The clerk told me to sign the ticket so I did that right away.”

After leaving Ray’s Party Shoppe, the player stopped to buy a safe to protect her ticket over the weekend.

The lucky player visited Lottery headquarters Monday to claim her prize. She chose to receive her prize as a one-time lump sum payment of about $634,000, rather than an annuity. With her windfall, the player plans to buy a new home, a new vehicle, and then save the remainder.

“I feel blessed. It feels good to win and know I will be a little more comfortable financially,” the player said.

Players have won more than $11.8 million playing $1,000,000 Gold Rush, which launched in May. Each $10 ticket offers players a chance to win prizes ranging from $10 up to $1 million. More than $55.3 million in prizes remain, including two $1 million top prizes, 17 $20,000 prizes, and 1,140 $1,000 prizes.

Lottery instant games may be purchased at 11,000 retailers across the state.

In 2016, Lottery players won nearly $817 million playing instant games.
