LANSING, October 10, 2011 – Michael N. Nelson was the lucky winner of a Fantasy 5 jackpot!
Nelson won $152,333 after purchasing the ticket for the October 2 drawing.
When asked about any special plans for the money, Nelson stated that he and his wife Kathy would “pay off the house. This brings us a little closer to retirement,” Nelson also noted.
Nelson, an engineer with Competition Engineering, who has been playing the Lottery “since it started,” enjoys hunting, golf, coaching softball and spending time with his grandchildren. “I never thought this would happen to me,” he stated.
His winning ticket was purchased at Next Door Store #51, 4415 Lake Michigan Dr. NW in Walker.
Over 95 cents of every dollar spent on Lottery tickets is returned to the state in the form of
contributions to the state School Aid Fund, prizes to players and commissions to retailers.
In fiscal year 2011, the contribution to schools was over $717 million. Since its inception in
1972, the Lottery has contributed over $16 billion to education in Michigan.
