LANSING, June 28, 2011 – It was night of drama for David Brecker of Wyoming, who was the lucky winner of a $250,000 Michigan Lottery prize last night at the International Freedom Festival’s fireworks display in downtown Detroit.
Brecker and the other four finalists vying for the grand prize in the Lottery’s Cash Tournament game first enjoyed the spectacular fireworks then took the stage for the live drawing, which was broadcast by WDIV Detroit Local 4. With a spin of the wheel, David, who was randomly assigned a yellow shirt before the drawing, was the lucky winner.
The other finalists, all of whom received a $5,000 appearance fee, were Ashley Lavassuer of Norton Shores, David Folk of Sterling Heights, Vincent Lee of Owosso and Kevin O’Connor of Livonia. The five players qualified for the drawing by entering non-winning Cash Tournament™ tickets on the Lottery’s Player’s Club Web site, www.michiganlottery.com. They were chosen from a pool of 102,307 entries.
Over 94 cents of every dollar spent on Lottery tickets is returned to the state in the form of contributions to the state School Aid Fund, prizes to players and commissions to retailers. In fiscal year 2010, the contribution to schools was $701.3 million. Since its inception in 1972, the Lottery has contributed more than $15 billion to education in Michigan.
“The Michigan Lottery. All across the state good things happen.”
